What business do you run?

I am the owner and president of Bright Flag Recruiting, the nation's premier recruiting firm for logistics and transportation. We primarily focus on the FedEx and Amazon space, but we also do some outside carriers, and outside sales roles.

What inspires you about being an entrepreneur?

One of the things that really inspired me about being an entrepreneur was the ability to have autonomy over my life. When I was working in corporate, I was spending an hour and a half driving to and from work. Which meant I was missing breakfast and dinner with my two young children. Therefore, when I was coming up with the idea of starting my own business, I thought to myself, ‘this is a great opportunity for me to be the type of employer that I always wanted to have.’

I really wanted to be women-centric and women-focused and hone in on the fact that you don't have to have a degree or background in something to be great at it. I also wanted to give the opportunity for people from all different types of demographics and educational backgrounds to have a shot at learning a new trade or skillset, and to be the conduit that allowed them to get into a new career.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

I think the biggest advice that I have for people who want to become entrepreneurs is to try it. You never know if you don't try and what's the worst thing that can happen to you? If you really have that desire and you don't go for it, you'll always look back and say ‘what if?’ — which is a regret that I didn't want to live with.

Therefore, my advice is to go for it and if you fail, you can still say you tried and feel good about yourself. Most people are afraid to try, and you should be proud of the fact that you did.
