Patton Foundation Hosts Second Annual Entrepreneurial Grant Challenge at APSU
Announcing Winners
Clarksville, TN, October 28, 2024 – The Patton Foundation, a Brentwood-based organization founded by entrepreneur Spencer Patton, proudly returned to Austin Peay State University (APSU) for its second annual Entrepreneurial Grant Challenge. This “Shark Tank”-style competition, open to all APSU students, awarded grants to the top three finalists out of six contenders.
The finalists included Jaire Tariq Richardson & Isabella Blackwell, Chris Lopez, Chelsae Thompson, Ajaya Wright, Jalia Chester, and Justin Edwards, each presenting innovative solutions aimed at real-world challenges.
The Winners and Their Innovations:
First Place – Jaire Tariq Richardson and Isabella Blackwell received the $5,000 grand prize for MomentMuse, a journaling app designed to promote mindfulness and personal growth through guided reflection.
Second Place – Chelsae Thompson earned a $2,500 grant for Money Monologues, a unique personal finance program that uses individual narratives to foster open discussions about financial empowerment.
Third Place – Justin Edwards won the $1,000 grant for Chaotic Minds, a venture focused on aiding individuals with sensory sensitivities. Their initial product, the UV Buddy, discreetly provides controlled UV light exposure to maintain the effectiveness of transition lenses while driving.
The event kicked off in September with a keynote from the Patton Foundation, followed by a virtual training series through the Patton Foundation Entrepreneur Workshop, designed to equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills. Each finalist was given ten minutes to pitch their business concept, followed by a five-minute Q&A with a panel of judges.
“Entrepreneurship is more than launching businesses; it’s about shaping futures,” said Spencer Patton. “The talent and drive of these students inspire me, and I’m excited to see the impact they’ll have on their communities and beyond.”
Patton, the founder of multiple companies in the logistics sector—including Patton Logistics, Route Consultant, and Hello Truck Lease—has grown his businesses from $0 to over $100 million in revenue within a decade.
